THE BAND WAS BORN APRIL 1991.
More About Tool:
The forming of alternative-metal
band Tool was originally inspired by Ronald A.
Vincent's religious book entitled "The Joyful
Guide to Lachrymology" in 1949.
Back in 1990, vocalist Maynard
James Keenan, drummer Danny Carey, guitarist Adam
Jones and basist Paul d'Amour, were all inspired
to start making music after understanding the
lachrymology, 'a study of crying'. The group was
formed under the name 'Tool' as they wanted to
serve the fanatics who eager to understand more
about lachrymology religion as a tool. Later in
1995, Paul d'Amour left the band and was replaced
by Justin Chancellor.
Tool is admitted by many to
play the most complicated and difficult music
in rock genre compared to its only rival forerunner
Dream Theater. What makes them think so is because
Tool uses unconventional time signatures and writing
ability which most likely only genius can play
it. But as many other geniuses who hide behind
their books, the members of the band avoid any
interviews and thus offer their fanatics to read
several books listed in their official website
in order to learn more about the band's music,
inspiration and philosophies.
The band, whose members wrote
most of their songs in a long average of ...
ten minutes or more duration,
launched a 1996's gold-certified extended-play
"Opiate" (1992). Furthermore, released
in 1993, Tool's first full-length album "Undertow"
has caused controversy and thus being removed
from the shelves of most retail chains across
North America for its inappropiate cover image.
Next, Tool's album "Aenima," includes
single "Stinkfist" which was renamed
as "Track #1" on MTV and VH1 in order
to avoid possible offensive meanings, was offered
for sale in 1996. "Aenima" contains
a dedication to the late comedian Bill Hicks who
was highly respected by Tool.
Tool worked on a cover of Peach's
song "You Lied" in their next album
"Salival" (2000). Shortly after that,
in 2001, the band's album "Lateralus"
was put on the market. The album became a success
and topped the Billboard charts in its premiere
week.
Tool has won their first Grammy
in 2002 for Best Metal Performance.
